Last night I highlighted my hair at home. I've done it before sucessfully, but I couldn't find the brand I used to get, so I got a Feria one. I put it all over, cause that's what I wanted, but the front/top looks orangish.
Does this mean I left it in too short of time? Or too long?
Should I just dye it darker? Or try to re-highlight it at home? I can't really afford a salon, and I've got my 6 month old at home, so I can't really do a salon. Can you re-dye highlighted hair at home?
It is always best to color the hair all over with your natural color and then do the highlights. If you are going to highlight, be sure to take very small strands. Just to the front and sides.
Make sure you use an ash tint or it can turn orange. It depends on how much lighter than your natural color you want to highlight. Usually not more than one to two shades lighter.
Do not try and re-highlight it or you will have a mess. There is not way to redo each strand and you would end up with all kind of colors and a very dry and bleached color.
If you do decided to redo the entire color and highlight again, keep testing a strand or two to make sure it has lightened to the shade you want. It sounds like you did not leave it on long long enough and definitely had the wrong color. You cannot go by what is on the box. You need to know your color.
If you can your best solution is let a hair dresser get it back in shape for you. Even doing it all over again can dry it out, split the ends and make a mess. Or at least ask a professional before you do anymore damage. The salon can recommend what brand and color to use.Can you re-dye highlighted hair at home?
Feria always leave brassy metalic looking results. I hate Feria. If I were you, I'd dye it darker and use an ash color to off-set the orange color. That will be your base color. Stick to something close to the color you'd like. Then, you may wish to bleach the highlights in, as it is processed now, then use a light ash colored toner or dye to cover the highlights to ease the brassiness that MAY result from the processing.
You do not need a professional. You can try Sally's Quick Blue bleach for like $3.50 a packet plus the developer (40 volume) and mix that. That will lighten. Use foil for highlights for at home.
