Have you ever highlighted your hair at home using foil? Any tips?

Cosmetologist of 25 years here!!


Do not attempt this at home. This is a hard technique for stylist to learn much less how to do it at home to yourself.


Pay a stylist to put 10 foils in. It is not that expensive and they will get it right.


You could really mess color application up by not placing your foils properly. Not worth the DIY this time!!

My friend goes to this hair stylist and she does all of her colorings with foil. Just put the color on your hair then fold the foil. I hope it works.

It's better if you use the cape to do highlights. Using foil seems easier but it actually isn't. Hope this helps! :)
