If i have used normal home use hair-dye..can i have my hair coloured and highlighted at the hairdressers?

I have used home use hair-dye for the past two years but i wanted to get it coloured professionally at the hairdressers and have a few highlights put it.....can this be done or do i need to grow the dye out of my hair first? I have never used peroxide just dark brown hair dye, and i wanted to keep it that coulour. and would they have to do two sittings or could they do the base colour and the highlights on the same day?? please help!!If i have used normal home use hair-dye..can i have my hair coloured and highlighted at the hairdressers?
Yes, you can have it done at the salon, the same day. Just be sure you tell your hairdresser the name and color of the product you put on your hair. This will make a big difference so she can formulate properly. If i have used normal home use hair-dye..can i have my hair coloured and highlighted at the hairdressers?
i have gone to the salon with a home dyed head and had them put in highlights. and i had no problems they came out great. and yes they are able to color and highlight in the same day. i haven't done it in a while cause i dye and highlight my own hair since i have short hair now and it's 50 bucks cheaper to do it myself
I alternate between home hair-dye and professional salon dye so you definitely can do it. I don't know about the highlights on the same day.
Yes you can get hightlights at the salon, they are professionally trained and have all the proper materials to highlight your hair, no matter what color you put in there. It will only have to take a couple hours to put the highlights in because they just put some bleach on it till it lift to the color you want.
I made the transition back to highlights after coloring my own hair for about a year. Just tell your hairdresser what products

you have used to color it with and they can give you the best

guidance and will know what is ok to do and not to do. I had no trouble - she was able to put blonde highlights in my red (colored by me) hair w/o any problems. What a relief it has

been to have her do the color now!

I have (dark)brown naturally curly hair with highlights. I want to go lighter, but at home.Any suggestions?

My hair is naturally dark brown, and my highlights are blonde. I want to go to a dark blonde with light blonde highlights. The lenghth is long (past my shoulders). I had the highlights professionally done, and have for a while. They are growing out and I am in desperate need of a change, but want to do it myself. Any advice?I have (dark)brown naturally curly hair with highlights. I want to go lighter, but at home.Any suggestions?
Believe me, that's a mistake!I have had to correct alot of heads, who have attempted to do the same thing. It's just not that easy to do, alot of figuring out.You will not get the results that you are looking for.It will be a mess. What i would suggest that you do, is to just buy that hitlites kit that you do at home, and pull a ton of hair thru the cap. That will get you an overall lighter look.do that for awhile and you'll end up light enough. To get the results that you want, that requires a professional. So, the best of luck.I have (dark)brown naturally curly hair with highlights. I want to go lighter, but at home.Any suggestions?
to do yourself, buy a bottle of the shade of blonde you want and dye it. it should turn out lighter
I would suggest you go to a professional because if you do not know what you are doing you could make a BIG mistake! I do hair in a salon and I have seen what can happen if you don't know what you are doing. You want to save money by doing it yourself but if you mess up and go to the salon to get it corrected it is going to be more expensive then if you would have went to the salon in the first place. I have charged $30 an hour to do color corrections and a girl I work with, at her old salon in the city charged $90 an hour so be smart about what you are about to do. Good luck!
My hair is the same as you describe. I use a kit from L'Oreal that is a two-step process in one box. The box is Red, L'Oreal Couleur Experte

Haircolor, 7.1 Vanilla Icing, Dark Ash Blonde sounds like the combo you want. This product changes from dark to light BETTER than any product I've used.

I want to put a few bright red highlights in hair around my face. Whats the best way to do it at home?

Use a frosting/hi-lite cap so you know exactly what area they are going in and to make sure that they are even.I want to put a few bright red highlights in hair around my face. Whats the best way to do it at home?
Fire engine red high gloss polyurethene paint from B %26amp; Q.

I went to Sally's and asked for highlights myself I could apply myself at home. My beige blonde hair is?

VERY brassy and strawberry blonde. HELP. I can't stand the oragne color. I'm afraid to apply an ash color because I don't wany my hair to turn green. What can I do?I went to Sally's and asked for highlights myself I could apply myself at home. My beige blonde hair is?
The best thing you can do is go to a pro and ask for a color correction.

Any thing else will be a taking a big chance your hair will turn out worse than it is now.

Can i dye my hair black with blueish black underneath with one or two coontails and blonde highlights at home?

i have blonde hair and my mom finally agreed to let me dye my hair black but she doesn't want to pay a whole lot just to get my hair done can i dye my hair at home with out having to go to some place to get it done? if not im screwed and she even just got the whole point that yes im emo and shes letting me show it.......finally.

plz help meh!!!!! :'[Can i dye my hair black with blueish black underneath with one or two coontails and blonde highlights at home?
hmmmm... well, im asuming that what eva base colour(I.E brown red ect.) you choose, you can do that at home with a dye kit.

as fer the highlights, that you can do at home. my mom always highlighted mii hair for me in grade school.

blueish black, that im not so shur about. you might have to get that professionally done, which shouldnt cost that much if i remember coorectly how much my frand said it costed. it just depends on the salon/tattoo shop you go to. my frand took me with her to a tatoo shop when she got her hair cut. most tattoo shops have a hair salon specializing in emo/scene hair cuts/colours.

coon tails, that im not so shur about eitherrr. i went to get a ';scene'; hair cut from a salon called Hair Masters. NEVER GO THER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. they fuqqd up mii hair an its just now growing outt. so thers a lil salon helpp. lol

so, i hope that helps and all goes well fer you

KeNdRa ( :Can i dye my hair black with blueish black underneath with one or two coontails and blonde highlights at home?
Just dye it at home.

Remember to dye the back and in the middle sections. I've messed up a few times and buying a whole new hair dye box every time I dye my hair gets expensive.

With coontails, practice with mascara a few times, and if you mess up with dye wash it out IMMEDIATLY.
You could probably dye it black at home, but I'm not sure about about coontails at home, though. I've heard it's hard. Maybe you could try getting an extension or two with coontails?

  • I have blond highlighted hair with some outgrowth and I want to go darker but how do I color it at home?

At the store, buy some hair dye. If you are looking how to do it yourself, good luck. It's pretty hard. You have to be very focused. I suggest that you have someone else at home do it for you.

What brand of hair dye do you reccomend for at-home highlights?

I want to highlight my (light brown) hair with some blonder streaks, but I don't want to pay to have it done at a salon.

Which brand from Target/convenience stores do you reccomend for this kind of thing?

ex: Herbal Essences, Clairol, etc. What brand of hair dye do you reccomend for at-home highlights?
Do you have a Sally's Beauty Supply nearby? They sell the stuff that are used in salons to the public, and it really isn't that much more expensive than regular dyes. You can also purchase the kits used for highlighting hair.

However, if you cannot (or do not) want to go to Sally's, then L'Oreal has great hair dye. What brand of hair dye do you reccomend for at-home highlights?
    That's not good.

It's really bad for your hair.

My friend did that and completely fried her hair.

My sister (who's a hair stylist) had to cut it and do ALOT of deep conditioning treatments.

I wouldn't reccomend doing it at home ever.
    L'oreal :]
i always use Herbal essences or clairol. they make clairol. they are really awesome and work well. easy to use too.
umm deffinatly L'OREAL paris its frost and design. i used this stuff. and i naturally have dark dark brown hair almost black, go to my myspace and see my pic. it does this, and its really good at processing quickly!

Is there a good at home product to put very subtle warm highlights in dark hair?

The highlighting kits I've seen all seem to be blond or red. I can go red but when I tried putting streaks in it that were supposed to be ';copper'; they came out too blond and trust me, blond looks totally hideous and tacky with my complexion. My hair is medium dark brown and it gets orangey highlights at the ends from the sun. I just want to glam it up a bit with a shinier warmer brown, but not all over and maybe just a shade or two lighter... or do you have any other colour sugestions? I have dark brown eyes and a light olive complexion that often looks ruddy (red). Is there a good at home product to put very subtle warm highlights in dark hair?
Here you go! I have your answer and most people do not know this. You can actually highlight your hair with hair dye! Choose a lighter color brown and just highlight it or foil it like you would with a highlighting kit! I do it all the time! Good luckIs there a good at home product to put very subtle warm highlights in dark hair?
as long as you dont have a hair color already in your hair you can use a hair color a few shades lighter than yours....but be very careful with appling it you can go over board or have big splothes
No, if you're going to do it right, go to a hairdresser. Even going to a hairdressing school is better than attempting to colour your hair yourself and is relatively inexpensive. Otherwise, just don't bother or you're in for a world of heartache!!
Well in the summer time i know if youu put lemon juice in your hair and and then sit in the sun u will get warm highlights because in is natural the lemon just busts it plus u can get a got tan. Other than that i don't know.

How do you highlight your hair at home?

i have blonde hair an i recently got black lowlights.

when they grow out i dont want to keep going to the salon.

so how can i highlight/lowlight my hair at home? How do you highlight your hair at home?
There are a lot of in home brands. I did my daughter's hair and it wasn't too hard and it came out nice. BTW, I'm her dad :)How do you highlight your hair at home?
you can buy hair kits in supermarkets specificly for highlighting hair with instructions but i would not recomend it as you have to mix the dye pretty good or at least perfect or it will not be the same colour as what you have. i would speek to your hairdresser and tell her the problems and see what she recomends most will tell you how to mix the dye as apllieing it to the root is the easy part but get advice of your hairdresser first
you can buy the hair highlighters and dye in a box thing at target, walkmart, and they have some at drug stores and grocery stores. instructions inside the box i died my hair with them from ';natural instincts'; brand but its also a good idea to get it profesionally done lol hah.

    xoxo,

    madieee.
buy a premade box thing. i did. and my mom read the directions and did it. and i think it looks nice just remember to follow the directions and youll be good. going to a salon is really expensive. the box i bought only costs $14.
if you want highlights just put some lemon juice in your hair and sit outside for a while. longer you sit out the lighter your hair will be.

    lowlights, buy a kit
not a good idea get a pro 2 do it
thats not a good idea, u should always consult a professional!

How much does a hair relaxer/permanently stragtening/highlightin cost?..can u do highlights at home?..........

my mom gets pissed when i spend money alll the time so is thr any way to permanently straigten..how much would it cost to do it at home n how much for professional....

is thr a way to do highlights at home??

i hav rllly think n rllllllllllllyyyyy dark brown hair(u can only tell its brown if u look at it under sunlight) i want to just make it alitttttle lighter..so my dad doesnt notice...my hair is somewat layered some parts near the front go a lil bit below my chin n the back parts go to my middle backHow much does a hair relaxer/permanently stragtening/highlightin cost?..can u do highlights at home?..........
The straightening treatments are extremely hard on your hair and at my salon they cost $400. You can do highlights at home, but i have never had them turn out very well. It's best to stick to a professional when dealing with your hair if you want it to look good. How much does a hair relaxer/permanently stragtening/highlightin cost?..can u do highlights at home?..........
For best results choose a kit the approach where you paint the color on strips of hair which creates a more natural look, as they would do in a salon. Highlights are permanent but root regrowth isn't as noticeable as with allover tints. Since they use bleach, they are one of the harshest home procedures- and the one most likely to go wrong. Never try to highlight dark brown or black hair at home- it will just go orange. If you are looking for lighter streaks, seek out professional help. If home highlights are suitable for you, increase your chances of success by never leaving the color on longer than directed, because your hair will snap. Neither should you take it of before it's done- you'll get brassy stripes, not sun-kissed streaks.
i dont recamend doing it at home becuz u might mess it up really bad if u dont have experience i wuld get it professionally done and depending on the place u go to and if ur getting it permanently straightened and highlights it will definetly b over 50$ maybe evan over 100$
I have always done highlights at home. I hardly go to the salon for highlights. YOu can buy a colour at almost any store and it has a hand brush to apply it.
getting it professionally permanently straightened usually costs between $300 and 600, depending on length and texture. and yes, you can buy a hair colour kit and it costs MUCH less than getting a professional colouring
It depends on the length of hair. Usually 60 and up for professional. You can highlight your hair at home. There are lot of kits like Miss Clairol. Depending on what your want different prices but you can straighten, perm, color, and highlight your hair from the comfort of your home. If you do it at home and are a little scared of trying it yourself check with family and friends you can usually find someone that does one of the above mentioned things at home. Good Luck!

  • I have light blonde hair and i want red highlights. How can I do this at home?

I don't want to go out and buy a kit or anything? What can I use at home to give my light blonde hair red highlights?I have light blonde hair and i want red highlights. How can I do this at home?
First of all, the term is not highlights; it's lowlights. Second of all, you probably wouldn't want to try it because your hair has a very likely chance of turning orange. Save up your money and go to a professional salon. Remember when you get there that the term is LOWLIGHTS. Highlights means sections are a lighter color than the rest. Lowlights is the opposite. Actually, I'd recommend more of a burgundy or black for lowlights.I have light blonde hair and i want red highlights. How can I do this at home?
use kool-aid you can rinse it out with no problem
dont dye it, dont ruin your hair, i'm sure its very pretty. i wish i had never dyed my ahir, i miss my natural colour.
If you dont want to buy a kit then Kool aid works
Nothing home made is going to give you red highlights. If you wasn't going to use an at home kit, just save up the extra money and go to a professional. Don't risk messing up your hair.
Well, the best thing to do is to go out and buy a kit--if you have a walmart or a drugstore they are very cheap~around $8. Also at these stores they carry permanent kits or temporary (wash-out) kits. BUT if you really just don't want to buy a kit, I only know of one thing to try. Kool-Aid. That might sound crazy but I've done it before. Pretty much any Kool-Aid flavor will do, just pick the color you want, mix it up a little strong (ie less water) to make a paste and put it where you want to highlights. This color will last about a month.
    Kool aid
Well you have to buy a kit dear! How else are you going to highlight your hair? Oh don't use Kool-aid though. Um well you want a home remedy? I can't think of anything but use a Henna perhaps.

Home hair dye/highlighting experts: wat's the absolute best way 2 color my hair with my mom doing it at home??

it's way 2 expensive 4 me 2 get my hair colored in a salon, so i'm gonna try 2 have it done at home. I've had my hair highlighting like ten times before and recently too. my mom does them and i get blonde highlights. Since we've done them so many times, my whole top layer of hair is mostly blonde. It's starting to look a little wierd with a very UGLY shade of my naturally brown hair underneath. anyway, i wanted 2 get it done professionally at a salon, but it turns out that it costs like $75-100 bucks, so i cant cuz its 2 expensive. can u tell me step by step how 2 color my hair like in the pic below. tell me how to do everything. whether i should dye it or highlight it, wat colors 2 use, wat brand 2 use, and a very detailed answer on how 2 color it. tell me watever u can!! THANK U SO MUCH!!Home hair dye/highlighting experts: wat's the absolute best way 2 color my hair with my mom doing it at home??
If you were in my chair I would cap you and do low-lights first all over your head then go in and do a few high-lights only in the center of your head trying to only hit the new regrowth...also with a cap on your head.....unless your Mom has done the foiling technique then she should only still do the center of your head and only the root area.

As far as what brand..... I would be using a semi-permanent hair color.....just because it says semi-permanent it usually stays on pre colored hair.....Go to Sally Beauty Supply as it will cost less when you buy one bottle of infuser one bottle of the color and the PACKET of bleach and the developer....Look at Radiance by Clairol for your Low-lightsHome hair dye/highlighting experts: wat's the absolute best way 2 color my hair with my mom doing it at home??
I had the same problem. So I put a permanent color on my hair the natural shade, Then waited about a week or so and went back in and put in highlights. The trick is: When you do your roots in the future, just pull little loops out of the cap. That way you just get the roots and don't end up with too much blond.

I use ';frost and tip'; but another option that I use is to get a bottle of peroxide and mix it )contains instructions) with lighter. I get it at Sally's-I buy Kaleidoscopes for the powder (it comes in shades for dark to light hair) which gives me several different shades of highlights-peroxide, and a cap; which comes with a hook. The powder goes a long way and you just mix up what you need. You'll probably invest 15.00 to 20.00 and have enough ';stuff'; to do your hair and roots 3 or 4 times. It's much cheaper than the kit you buy and you don't have to use a toner afterward.

I bet it turns out beautiful (everyone wants to know who ';does mine';).

    Good Luck to you!
you can't dye your hair too often, it will burn your scalp and you will have irreversible hair loss (balding), just let it go for awhile, or dye over it with a dark color, dyes coat your hair, highlights literally burn your hair. Dyes are safer for your hair at tthis point. You could always get a different cut or wear it a different way to disguise th;e roots, or wear a headband or something. Just be nice to your hair!

What is the best at home single process hair color for dark to medium brown hair with natural highlights?

Agree with the person above me......Loreal...:)

**EDIT** actually had a professional stylist tell me if you're going to go with home products to stick with loreal....What is the best at home single process hair color for dark to medium brown hair with natural highlights?
    Loreal :D

If you have darksih brown hair can you lighten it at home with a bunch of highlights ?

just wondering or will it turn orange ?If you have darksih brown hair can you lighten it at home with a bunch of highlights ?
well if you know what you are doing it won't turn orange.. you just have to leave the bleach on for the right amount of time.. but bleach is really bad for your hair so be safe and go to a professionalIf you have darksih brown hair can you lighten it at home with a bunch of highlights ?
If it's natural, you can do it. If it's dyed, it won't do much at all.

Naturally, I have brown hair, but I dye it a lot. The first time, it'll dye pretty easily. After you dye it though, the color's hard to noticably change.
y would you lighten it. Dark hair is so much more exotic than crappy bleach blonde

At home coloring on already very light blonde highlighted hair?

i want to dye my hair at home.. my roots are very dark, and my ends are still very blonde from the highlights. i want to stay blonde, are there any suggestions on dying my hair at home, and what colors i should use, should i use light blonde or dark blonde so that my hair wont turn white? At home coloring on already very light blonde highlighted hair?
I can guarantee that if your roots are 'very' dark, using a blonde tint (at home), will only lift it to an orange/reddish level. If you have a friend to help you could go to Sally's Beauty Supply or your local store and get a highlighting kit with a cap to pull your hair through. These products contain bleach (not tint).

The problem is 'how dark is your natural hair'. I really recommend you make an appointment at a salon for a highlight retouch. It can be done with a cap or foil. Foil tends to be more expensive, but gives better results when done by an experienced stylist.

If you mess up at home it could cost you 5 times more then originally to repair it at the salon. Believe me I saw it a lot in my shop,; I did hair for 18 years.

    Take care :)

I just had my hair colored in a salon and now i want to put in highlights at home,is that safe? Thanks in adv

Typically you need to wait two weeks to make sure the dyes don't react poorly with each other. Make sure you spend a little bit of extra money to get a good brand. I also would recommend pulling it through a cap if you want even highlights, the highlighting wands give really chunky highlights.I just had my hair colored in a salon and now i want to put in highlights at home,is that safe? Thanks in adv
    There is a thing called a hair ';grace period';

where you must wait two weeks

    after perming/coloring/relaxing your hair

before you should attempt anything else.I just had my hair colored in a salon and now i want to put in highlights at home,is that safe? Thanks in adv
Weeeeell, just let me tell you my experience. I did the same thing you are comtemplating, and my hair turned orange, just like a deranged BOZO the clown.
If you had your hair colored in a salon, why in the world would you want to do your own hightlights? If you end up doing it yourself good luck, and you don't have to wait anytime after you colored it.
NO IT IS NOT SAFE GO 2 A HAIR SOLON. OR YOUR HEAD MIGHT HURT A LITTEL.
Yes, it is safe as long as you wait at least 4 weeks after getting it done in a salon or your hair might fall out.
yeah it is ... use a good dye
Yeah it's safe, but you may want to learn from a professional some tips before you start. Like where to begin the highlight, at the scalp or a little further down, or how large should the highlights be in width. Or which brand of highlight dye you should purchase.
don't do it yet. Give at least a week before you do the hightlights. Highlights do a lot of damage to any kind of hair.

  • What is the best way to add at-home highlights to dyed blonde hair?

I have been successful in coloring my hair at home for over a year now. I would like to add highlights to my light blonde hair at home. Any product or method suggestions? What is the best way to add at-home highlights to dyed blonde hair?
You can do a color glaze. John Freida sells one for their blonde line, it adds dimention, shine, and subtle highlights. I did it on my dyed blonde hair (before I dyed it black, of course... ) and it looked really nice! What is the best way to add at-home highlights to dyed blonde hair?
    follow the directions
A cheap way to highlight your hair is to put Hydrogen Peroxide(rubbing alcohol) in your hair. But try not to put too much or any on your roots.
if you already have blonde hair, bleach will work fine, you can get it at any sallys or beauty supply store, i work in a salon so i know, usually i wouldnt recomment bleach but if your hairs blonde already its ok, i wouldnt put too many highlights in tho, and since your hairs already blonde you could just use a cap or foils if you know anyone who can do them

Will my hair highlights come out the same if I went to a salon on my mom did it at home from a box.?

I have been getting my hair professionally highlighted. I no longer have the money to keep going to the salon. Will my highlights looks the same if my mom highlights it at home with what you can buy at like walmart. I have light blonde highlights with light brown hair. PLEASE HELP!Will my hair highlights come out the same if I went to a salon on my mom did it at home from a box.?
be very careful, if your mom has experience then yeah, but if not, i really recommend you to go to a cheap salon or save money to go to your regular one...

im sorry but i've been there and i didnt liked when they came out wrong...

help me please?http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?鈥?/a>Will my hair highlights come out the same if I went to a salon on my mom did it at home from a box.?
Will it be the same? most likely not. The salon most likely uses foils and the kits use a brush and you just comb on the color. There is no control of the bleach. I understand that you dont have alot of cash so you might consider going to one color all over OR you can touch up your brown color and go to a salon and get a partial highlight just on the top and around your face. The partial highlight is more economical. i hope that helps! =-)
    prbly not,

go to sallys and buy professional dye

the if you do it right it will look good =]

Just wanted to know if using an at home highlighting kit was good on relaxed hair???

No, please go to a salon and have them check to see if the hair is able to be color treated after having been relaxed. It may not be safe, the hair could be too fragile or too damaged.Just wanted to know if using an at home highlighting kit was good on relaxed hair???
    i wouldn't recommend it.

since your hair has already been chemically treated, it's already damaged , adding another chemical on top of it, i would seek professional help. it doesn't worth getting my hair all break off.

good luckJust wanted to know if using an at home highlighting kit was good on relaxed hair???
yess, it will look fine. and work good. be sure you wash your hair before and dont get any dye on your furniture..trust me!!
make sure there is a gap of 2-4 weeks between relaxer and highlight. this will ensure that ur hair is not damaged

I have blonde highlighted hair but i want to dye it medium brown, is it safe to buy dye and do it at home?

I always had brown hair but went blonde a few months ago... now, i'm thinking it was a bad idea as it doesn't match my eyebrows. I don't want to pay to get it done again, so is it ok to dye it myself or should I not be so cheap and go and get it done? I have blonde highlighted hair but i want to dye it medium brown, is it safe to buy dye and do it at home?
Yes, you can do it at home and safely for a fraction of the cost. I would suggest L-Oreal dark blonde. You have to be careful with color. For instance if you bought a med brown color, it might be darker than you want. So you can start with a dark blonde and see how that works for you. I've colored and permed my hair many years with no problems. But, I always use L-Oreal products. Others have not worked that well for me.I have blonde highlighted hair but i want to dye it medium brown, is it safe to buy dye and do it at home?
If you had dark hair, the only way you could have achieved lighter hair would have been to bleach it, so it would not be a good idea for you to try coloring your hair at home. You need to go to a professional (preferably, the same professional) and talk with them about your styling habits, what was last used on your hair, how long ago, and any other treatments you've done. That way they can evaluate what is safe to use on your hair.

It would be a shame to save a few bucks and have your hair to rinse down the sink ...

What is the at home solution for adding red highlights to dark brown hair?

i just did this last week.

u have to bleach it 1st.

use wella bleach from sally beauty supply.

leave it on for 45 min to an hour and 15 min.

until it becomes a honey blonde color.

  • I dyed my hair yesterday, black-brown, with a regular at home dye kit. Is it too soon to do @ home highlights?

I got the Loreal highlighting dye for dark hair and some peroxide, will the color come out bright or is it best to wait a few days?I dyed my hair yesterday, black-brown, with a regular at home dye kit. Is it too soon to do @ home highlights?
You should wait one or two weeks because the chemical might mess up your hair .So just wait awhile your hair will come out great =)I dyed my hair yesterday, black-brown, with a regular at home dye kit. Is it too soon to do @ home highlights?
Honestly I would wait a few days because dying your hair is a chemical reaction. Also u wouldn't want the colors to mix.
    comes out good

What can i use at home to dye my hair blonde or give highlights?

i want to use home made things instead of buying the ****.What can i use at home to dye my hair blonde or give highlights?
if you already have blonde hair use lemon juice then sit in the sun. but DO NOT USE LEMON JUICE IF YOU HAVE BRUNETTE HAIR! it will make it turn orange!! if you have brunette hair you want to use brewed chamomile tea. you might want to do a little research too just to make sure. :) hope i helped!

Can I color my hair at home if I have bleached highlights using ';Sun-In';?

The only ';highlighting'; I have ever done is using ';Sun-In'; (or related brands) spray highlighting stuff. (The kind where you spray it in and the heat from the sun or hairdryer will lighten your hair). I've been doing this for years...at least 15! I know that this is not a very good way to do this, but it always worked for me. However, I think I'm ready for a change!

My question is this: can I safely/easily color my hair at home after all these highlights? I'd go a shade darker. Or am I better off to go to a salon? I'm really a beginner at this, even though I'm 30! Can you home color after the salon, can you color on top of highlights, etc? I know if I ask my hairdresser she will want to do it for me, which would probably be okay. But if I can also do it myself, I'd like to try.

Thanks in advance! :-)Can I color my hair at home if I have bleached highlights using ';Sun-In';?
i have a customer that used sun in for years. she is a natural blond but wanted highlights and the sun in worked well for her. 2 months ago she wanted to go darker, like a medium brown. i had the worst time trying to get color to stay in her hair and getting the color to turn out the desired shade. no matter what shade of brown i used, it would fade drastically to a very brassy dark blond. after several applications, the color finally stuck but it was a long hard process.

you could try to color it yourself but be prepared for fading and you may have to try several applications before you achieve the desired color.

Help please!!! My at home highlights are hideous! How soon can I dye my hair back to it's original color?

Please dont strip your hair!! you will only make it worse trust me! Use a semi or demi permanent hair color to cover up your highlights. You can do this same day. if you must use a permanent, by all means dont buy any box color! Get something you have to mix yourself so that you can control the volume of developer your using on your just processed hair. dont use anything higher then10 vol. stick with your natural shade just to cover up. trying to change the color will open up a whole new can of worms! be careful and happy coloring!Help please!!! My at home highlights are hideous! How soon can I dye my hair back to it's original color?
Well if you are a black girl and you have permed hair you have to wait two weeks; but if you are natural and you are black you can go ahead and re-dye after your hair dries! But if you are white i don't know the process on that!Help please!!! My at home highlights are hideous! How soon can I dye my hair back to it's original color?
if u can run 2 eckerd or duane reade or any other stores and find the most closest matchin color and color ur hai. srry dis had 2 happen. or stay home 4 a long time if dat helps.
You can usually dye it back right away. But be sure to buy dye that is two shades lighter than what you are aiming for.

    I know I'm lame.
that happened to me too! the best way that i got rid of them is to dye my hair the same color that it naturally is, so it only dyed my highlights. then i changed my part.
OOH, girl you r a dummy, you can dye your hair back anytime.
pay a beautician to make it look better. mabey adding low lights.
You can use a color stripper to remove the highlights. But it's recommended that hair coloring should be done every 4 to 6 weeks.
    as soon as u can.

  • Question about highlighting hair at home.?

My hair is dark blonde, and I had it highlighted with a light blonde professionally. But I do not have the money to go back and get it re-done. I was thinking about buying a highlighting kit (with the cap) and doing it myself at home.

What shades should I go for so it does not leave me with orange highlights? maybe a champagne shade?

Also, would it work if I only put the dye at the roots?

Thanks!!Question about highlighting hair at home.?
The cap hurtsQuestion about highlighting hair at home.?
Highlighting at home is never a good idea unless you are a professional! It is very easy to end up with highlights that are bright orange, no matter WHAT product you use, and the highlights will work much faster on the roots since the heat from your scalp speeds up the chemical reaction. You are likely to end up with roots that are a much brighter color than the rest of your highlights. Just let your hair grow out for now, save up your money, and then go back to the salon.

I just had my hair highlighted with an at home kit. Some of the areas wound up not getting any highlights.?

My root area is totally brown and it almost looks like highlights that have staarted to grow out but were just don Ie. How long do I have to wait to get this fixed? Without damaging my hair? It looks really terrible. I am embarassed to even go to work. I dont want to say its blotchy but it is just so uneven! I want to go to the salon to get it fixed! I absolutely hait the way it turned out it didn't take the way I thought it would. Is it possible for the salon to rehighlight or what will they do to correct this?! Someone please help!I just had my hair highlighted with an at home kit. Some of the areas wound up not getting any highlights.?
A professional hairdresser should be willing to fix it right away, When I did hair I would have had no problem doing a corrective color right away, if someone is hesitant to do it, they probably arent going to do a very good job though...It wont be cheap, its hard work to fix at home color mistakes (expect to pay at LEAST $50 an hour for a quality job) I charged $90 an hourI just had my hair highlighted with an at home kit. Some of the areas wound up not getting any highlights.?
First of all, contact the 1-800# on the box you used. Call them to see if they can give you any advice. What happens when you color your hair with a home color kit is that you must put the color on the roots first then the remaining goes on at a later time during the processing of color. Because as your hair grows the roots begin to show your original color. Yes, it can be fixed. You can go to a hair salon and have it done. I will tell you of an experience of mine. I did a home color kit with the color and highlight comb. It turned my hair orange. Went to the salon and I had to pay more than a $100 to fix it. She added a color to my hair I had to go thru the processing, blow dry it, and then add another color for the highlight. About 4 hours. Of course, like in your situation it was worth it to me. Otherwise until you get to change it try to change up your hairstyle. Pin it up, curl it differently, or a headband. I don't know what kind of style you have, but it may not be as bad as you see it because it is your hair. Good luck and hope this info helped.
Give it a couple of days before you try it again, in the meantime wear your hair up to avoid being embarassed. Grown out highlight looks look much better in a ponytail or clip. Next time you highlight, the more you put on the brighter the area gets. If you bought the highlighting kit that you just have to apply and it doesn't spread then you HAVE to apply a lot make sure the strand you're highlighting is saturated and then apply extra just in case. I've used one of those before and I learned my lesson the second time around.

All in all, if it doesn't work the second time, go to a hairstylist and have it done professionally.

What's a good at home hair colouring kit to use? (Highlighting ones too.)?

Lè´¸real Hi- lites kit is really good and great valu too!!

Can I dye my hair at home after getting bleached highlights?

I just got my hair highlighted today and i HATE it. My hair is naturally a dark blonde and now there are streaky highlights that look awful. This was the first time I've ever got it dyed. So earlier I went to the store and bought non permanent dark blonde hair dye (natural instincts). ..I was wondering if it would be worse for my hair to dye it over the highlights..? I don't know what to do, It really looks too bleach blonde. I wanted it more natural. So if i dye it myself will it turn green? Please help, thanks :)Can I dye my hair at home after getting bleached highlights?
it shouldn't turn your hair green but i would recomend getting hair opps at walmart or something (it is exposed to take the hair dye out but i not sure if it works on salon dyes) and if you dont want to get that you can dye your hair with the box stuff but wait a few days it is not good to dye your hair right away you'll over process it and hey maybe when your waiting those few days maybe you'll start to like it

(also ask some friends if they like it to make sure its not just you or something)Can I dye my hair at home after getting bleached highlights?
Don't do anything yourself, and hair oops is a color remover, won't work on bleach. Just damage it.

If you're not happy, tell the hairdresser and she can put a toner without peroxide on it, as a peroxide color will affect all your hair.....(anything that has two products to mix, one of them is a peroxide or developer)

Also, it could turn your natural color an orangy color. Any amount of developer will lift it.

It may look lighter than you wanted but it's better than what you could do to it yourself.....wait till you can see the hairdresser and she'll do something for you....she'll want to make you happy. As the others said, you may end up liking it, as some people would be disappointed if it didn't show up enough.
NO ! ! ! Don't try any thing for a few day ...My best friend did and her hair fell out.. no **** ! See what some of your friends think first be for you do any thing..

  • Can I use at home hair color over my faded and rooted highlights? ?

I bought some Nice n Easy Perfect 10 Medium Brown to cover up some caramel colored highlights I got about 7 weeks ago. It says on the box to check with someone if you are going to cover up highlights and I was just wondering if it's okay to use...?Can I use at home hair color over my faded and rooted highlights? ?
Nice and easy is a permanent hair color and to cover up hi lights you need a deposit only color... take it back and get Clairol's Natural Instincts... it is a semi permanent.

A permanent color has to lift pigment from your hair and then deposits the color and that is not what you need... so what happens 6 weeks from now when the color fades you will end up having lightened your entire head... this may not make sense to you but trust me... what you are wanting is what we call a ';tint back'; service and semi permanent color strength is what you need... semi permanent color are so gentle you can do them weekly...

Question about at home hair color (over top highlights)?

I have pretty thoroughly highlighted hair, but I'd really like to just go back to my natural brown shade. If I use box hair color, is there anything I should make sure I don't get so my hair turns out alright? Any advice?

And please spare me any lectures about not using box hair color, I've used it before and nothing tragic happened, I've just never colored over highlights before. Thanks!Question about at home hair color (over top highlights)?
What you want to do is run it through your hair, and put it on your ends last. Your ends are usually more damaged because they are more processed, so when you put the color on all over at the same time, the ends turn out darker (trust me, its happened to me before). Make sure you get it evenly across your whole head, and remember that with box colors, they usually come out a shade darker than they say they will on the box, especially if you're going from blonde to brown. Revlon and Natural Instincts are my two favorite box brands to get, and they're usually pretty cheap. I usually rinse my color out about 5 minutes before it says to, so that the color turns out how I want it. :-) Best of luck!

My at home highlights are really bad. How soon can I dye my hair back to it's original color?

My hairs still wet so please help me fast!!My at home highlights are really bad. How soon can I dye my hair back to it's original color?
depends on natural color and the color of the hilights...need more info

ok---what I would do.......tricky but you can do it....apply this to towel dried hair....go get a light brown color. when you go to mix it, use 1/2 of the developer--then add water to make up the other half. this will stop the light brown color from screwing up your natural color, but will only deposit the light brown on your hilighted hair. there is only a mild developer this way and you are only getting deposit of color, not lightening. should work fine. oh yeah---if you are REALLY orangy get a light ash brown, if its not too bad, get a light natural brown. should have the hilights you want. hey----let me know how it comes out or if ya need any more help! I will check later! oh---and leave it on for 30 min. good luck!!!My at home highlights are really bad. How soon can I dye my hair back to it's original color?
I get my hair done at JC penny salon, and I got my hair done and I didn't like b/c of what the woman did to it. i called back and the woman that I talked to said they could fix it the very next day.
anytime but from your experiance go to a hair salon (i dont mean that in a bad way) =) try to find a color that matches your natural hair and start over from there, or when it grows out (if you die it back to your original color you wont even notice when you grow it out

oh you need it now!!!??!!! well wear a hat and go to the drug store to buy a die ment to color all of your hair. dont panic!!! just wait till the morning and put your hair up so you cant tell and get your booty to a hair salon!!!

it will definetly not come neatly @ home . try single streek at a parlour dats de best option
use lemon juice, its a natural way to make ur hair color brown, and it does not damage your hair =] just put a little lemon juice in a glass, about a quarter cup and pour it on your hair for about 30 min...if u want the suhnkiss brown shade then after u put the lemon juice in your hair, go outside where there is sunlight %26lt;33 good luck, although u wont need it =]
you are going to run into difficulties with the black, have to remove the black pigment before you can go brown, also may want to watch your highlights, how light are they, you may need a filler so that the highlights will keep the brown, otherwise they will faid very quickly. Good luck with your project! Keep all the box tops just in case you have to go to the salon, so they know where you have been and where they need to go if a corrections is needed

Considering at-home hair dye... Blonde professional highlights to Blonde at home touchups... Recommended?

I have always had my blonde hair professionally done- cut, high/low-lights, and occasionally some root color. Right now, I'm just looking for something a bit cheaper! I was considering L'Oreal Natural Match- it looked like they had good colors and a great website... I'm a bit nervous to try something at home that I have never done before! And, I'm not sure which all-over color would get the best results. Advice would be appreciated!!! Thanks! :)Considering at-home hair dye... Blonde professional highlights to Blonde at home touchups... Recommended?
I have dyed my hair SO much that it isn't even funny. Listen to me when I say, do NOT ruin your pretty professionally dyed hair with boxed hair color. I tried the Natural Match, and it did NOTHING to my hair. It just damaged the heck out of it. Don't always go off of the websites, believe me... that sometimes results in the worst hair dye mistakes.

I would stick to having it professionally done. If the boxed color ends up messing up your hair, you'll just have to pay for someone to correct it anyhow. It might actually SAVE you money going with having it professionally done!!!Considering at-home hair dye... Blonde professional highlights to Blonde at home touchups... Recommended?
I've had highlights done professionally, and done them at home with L'oreal. There is no real comparison, the professionally done ones are so much better. The color is nicer, not brassy or orangy, and they know how to put them on so they don't look obvious. I paid about $175 for the salon, and if I had the money I'd do it again, but I did do my last ones myself, and they are ok, but not nearly as nice as the salon.

    Good Luck!
There are some great, all-natural, at-home recipes that you can make yourself for your hair! Here is the one for blonde hair/highlights:

    YOU WILL NEED

    2 cups water

    plastic squeeze bottle (optional)

1/4 cup loose chamomile tea or dried chamomile flowers

1/4 cup chopped fresh rhubarb or loose rhubarb tea

    WHAT TO DO

    1. Place the herbs (chamomile and rhubarb) in a pot with 2 cups water. (Dont' use aluminum, it reacts negatively with the herbs)

    2. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer uncovered for 20-25 minutes (until the mixture is reduced by half)

    3. Let cool for 10-15 minutes. Then strain out the herbs and pour the mixture into a plastic squeeze bottle. (If you're not using a bottle, substitute a bowl)

    4. Shampoo your hair as usual, then use the squeeze bottle (or your hands) to apply the mixture to your hair from roots to tips. Rinse well with cool water to seal the hair shaft and help preserve the color.

This is a real recipe- I got it from a book (see my sources)

Also, during the summer, try putting lemon juice in your hair for a day while you're at the beach or where ever you are. The sun will make your hair lighter.
I have done highlights at home many times and it's about the same other than the fact that you have to do it or have a freind do it for you. But the results are the same.

    Good Luck

frost n tipWhat is a good at home hair dye kit to lighten or bring out natural highlights but not too drastically?
I've heard of using Sun-in to give you really subtle and natural highlights without doing too much damage to your hair.
if you really know how to i would recommend L'oreal but if not seek professionals.
If you want to change your whole hair color (all hair, not just highlights), then go to the grocery store and pick up something by L'Oreal. Pick a color that is close to your natural hair color (or whichever you're referring to) and use that. There should be color guides on the side of the box to tell you what to expect for light, medium, and dark hair.

If you're wanting highlights, go somewhere to get it professionally done. Whole head color is one thing, but highlighting isn't very pretty when amateurs try it ; ).

  • If I dye my hair at home will the highlights show through?

My natural hair color is medium ash blone. Right now I have the underneath of my hair dyed dark blonde and the top is highlighted light blonde (various shades) usually I get highlights and lowlights alternating each visit to the salon to avoid the bleached out looked.

My hair color is natural and pretty but I'm thinking of going medium brown in the fall (done it before it looks nice) I would like to do it at home to save money (going dark at home, i would NEVER try going like again, its too tricky), and I was wondering if all the highlights will show through or will the color just look flat and not multi tonal. Should I just spend the money and go to the salon.

Any thoughts? If I dye my hair at home will the highlights show through?
I've had really good results with Natural instincts. I like to get my highlites done at the salon, but in the fall/winter I sometimes go brown. The hair dye will not just be one flat shade b/c your hair is different colors each strand will absorb the color differently. However it's not going to look as dramatic as highlites do. The good thing about Natural instincts is that it washes out, but it takes a good 2 -3 months and you won't have roots! If I dye my hair at home will the highlights show through?
when i get my hair dyed the highlights didn't show through, i had to get highlights when i got my hair dyed.

How can i achieve natural at home highlights in my medium/dark brunette hair?

I need some inexpensive tips that are non-damaging for my hair!!How can i achieve natural at home highlights in my medium/dark brunette hair?
try using the brilliant blonde stuff by john frieda. it works really well to bring out natural highlightsHow can i achieve natural at home highlights in my medium/dark brunette hair?
lemon juice, its great and safe for natural highlights.
alright girly, lol take a empty bottle fill it with lemon juice and hydrogen peroxide and shake it, and add alittle bit of water, then spray it into your hair, and if its sunny then go outside and sit, and if its not sunny, take a blow dryer and dry your hair, i do it all the time! it lightens your hair sooo much! i went from medium brown to like very very light brown and red, it looks awesome!
Be careful of the home remedies with dark hair. Sometimes vinegar and lemon juice might work on lighter shades of hair i.e. darker blondes but it's very difficult to lift darker hair colors with something as simple as vinegar or lemons. The outcome can be less than desirable. You might also keep in mind that anything that you use to change the color of your hair is damaging, no matter what.
Just put vinegar in your hair and sit out in the sun. You'll get natural red highlights.
    lemon juice and sunlight...always works
use revlon frost %26amp; glow for dark hair. it has a cap with a tool to pull through only the hairs you want highlighted ... then you put in the highlighter and wait 30 minutes... then in the shower there is a toner to put in your hiar to give the highlights a golden color. i do it every 2-3 months to my hair.... it looks so good that my hairdresser was impressed.
I have a sally beauty supply place that I get just a regular high lite kit for like 9 buckS
put streaks of lemon in your hair and sit out in the sun. hair will lighten but you have to be sure to wash it out as soon as your done.

At home highlighting with Hot Topic hair dye?

I want to buy the hair dye from Hot Topic. Dark purple or dark blue.

    1. Is it going to work in my hair? I have straight, dark brown almost black Asian hair.

    2. Is it easy to use? or can you mess up really easily?

    3. How long does it stay in? and does it damage your hair?

*remember... Im not dyeing my hair, just highlighting it*

Thanks!!!!!At home highlighting with Hot Topic hair dye?
The Hot Topic hair dyes are ';demi-permanent'; and will last for about six washes. The darker colors like purple or blue won't show up on your hair as well as they would on lighter hair and will be more noticeable in sunlight or other strong light, but they will show up. They don't damage your hair any more than any other demi-permanent color would. There is a bonus to using that dye - they're cruelty-free. (At least Raw Hair Dye and Manic Panic are - don't know what kinds they carry now.)

Putting highlights in my hair with an ';at home'; kit?

I recently dyed my hair dark, and now I want to use one of those frost and glow dye kits and put highlights in. Will I end up frying my hair trying to bleach through the other color? Will it turn green?Putting highlights in my hair with an ';at home'; kit?
Get a kit that is especially for darker dyed hair. You may only be able to lighten it a few shades, which is actually ideal since lightening it too much can cause damage. You won't want to go with bleach blonde highlights, that's for sure. Go with a dark blonde or light brown if you're hair is really dark. If you want a more natural look, go with darker highlights. I think Loreal or Clairol makes the kit you want, but I'm not entirely sure. It comes in an orange and white cubed box (not rectangular like most hair dye boxes). Most department stores have it though. Make sure you don't choose a color of highlights for hair lighter than you currently have (most boxes will tell you the color range their highlights are for) or your highlights will turn out brassy. Look for your hair color in the ';before'; boxes on the back.=) Hope that helps!Putting highlights in my hair with an ';at home'; kit?
The commercials certainly make these products appear easy to apply and receive positive results. However, in my profession I have seen so many of these experiments go horribly bad. My advice... be very meticulous with your application. It should not turn green, but lifting through color will typically yield warm results - just so you are aware. Meaning reds, oranges, gold and yellow - depending on how much lift you give it. Bleach can fry your hair. A rule of thumb when working with bleach - rinse it out as soon as you have acheived the level of lightening you desire. The longer it has time to process the more damage it can do.
Go see a professional. That's a lot of chemicals and potential damage to your hair.
    probably

Touch up dark roots at home with highlighted hair?

Hello! My hair is naturally a medium/dark brown. I've been getting blond highlights for about a year now, so its mostly blond, but it still has a few different tones in it. I want to touch up my roots at home with one of those kits you can buy at drugstores but I'm a bit hesitant.

First off, wont it just turn my brown roots orange? I've always heard you should never go blond at home because it will just look orange. I really don't wanna have an orange strip on the top of my head, but would really like to get the roots looking less noticeable until i can get to a salon.

How much lifting do these products do? Anyone with highlighted blond hair tried these products?? Did it turn out ok? Thanks alot!!Touch up dark roots at home with highlighted hair?
I really would recommend sticking to what works: going to your hairdresser. I promise you it'll be much better than anything an at-home hi-lite kit could do. They DO frequently turn people's hair orange, especially with dark hair, like yours. It's the hardest to lift!

  • I have natural dark blonde hair with pro highlights, will the at home dye work for me?

I have naturally dark blonde hair but for the past few years have been getting (vanilla) highlights; basically as light as I could go. I love the effect, the blondes mix well together but I'm tired of the maintanence. It is expensive and has to be done very often, my hair dresser is always very booked so its hard to get into her, I've tried other place but have never gotten the same results, and felt like it was a waste of money. Last time I got highlights I also got lowlights thinking that the roots wouldnt be as bad, my hair grows extremely fast and I hate having roots. Being a student I just cant afford this anymore and dont have the time but still love having the lighter hues in my hair. I was considering byeing the at home hair color like L'oreal or Garnier and gettting a color a couple shades lighter than my natural; the kind that brings out different tones in your hair aswell instead of just being a flat color. Should I do this? Will it turn out bad? Everything I need to know...I have natural dark blonde hair with pro highlights, will the at home dye work for me?
My stylist instincts want to tell you a big fat no... but I understand where you come from when you say that it can be expensive to get salon hilites and such done.

Unfortunately, I would never ever tell you to go ahead and grab a box of hair dye from the drug store for many reasons:

No matter what the swatch tells you, the color may not come out the way it claims. Without knowing what kind of undertones your hair contains I can't even give a slight suggestion. Be careful of colors that contain the work ';ash';, they can make your hair look grey and even green, but if you try something that is too warm, it can end up going orange on you.

My professional opinion would be to consider starting to get demi or semi permanent colors on your hair. Redken makes a color line called Shades EQ. It is a semi-permanent color that does not have any sort of lifting ability, it is a deposit only, meaning it will only put color into your hair. Being that you have highlights, you could have a shades color applied all over that will brighten your natural color and enhance the highlights, or get a color that covers the highlights. The benefits to a service like this are numerous. It would in most cases be a lot cheaper then the highlights, and being a semi-permanent, it fades out rather than having to grow it out, meaning no skunk line. Try and find a salon in your area that works with Redken and consult with a stylist about your options. If you want any more advice, e-mail me @ hairstylistadvice@hotmail.com.I have natural dark blonde hair with pro highlights, will the at home dye work for me?
why not go to your stylist and have her color it the color you want? if it's just one all over color with not too much maintenence than even the salon assistant can apply your re-touch if your stylist is busy. Plus all over color is way cheaper than a full head of hilights-ask about it, what can it hurt?
You should keep going to a salon. home dying SUCKS!!!
I use to go to places such as Wal-mart and buy that home dye stuff, but from my own personal experience you should go to a profession salon and have your hair done. I use to think I was saving $, but actually it cost me more in the long run by them ruining my hair. It has taken my hair years to recover, but now it finally has. Spend the extra $ and have it done right before you end up in the situation I was in. Good luck!
I like L'oreal color expert. I comes in lots of shades, and it includes the highlights in the box so the hair color and the highlights look good together. Its more expensive than other brands (about $15 at Wal-Mart) and I usually have to buy two boxes because my hair is long and thick, but I really like the results.
well dying your hair at home is easy. now a days. the color you pick. comes in a kit and you just put it in. and wash it out. but as for high lights. with home kits. or just doing highlights. you do it with a cap and pull the hair that you want to color threw and then dye. it in bleach.then dye it a darker color if you want low lights.

I have dark blonde hair and i want to add light blonde highlights at home, how can I do this?

I need it to work pretty quickly..without needing the sun..or getting a kit. Please help!!!I have dark blonde hair and i want to add light blonde highlights at home, how can I do this?
Mix peroxide and lemon juice together in a cup. Dip a wide-toothed comb in the cub and comb whichever sections you want highlighted. Leave it on for about ten minutes, then rinse out and wash with a mild shampoo and conditioner.I have dark blonde hair and i want to add light blonde highlights at home, how can I do this?
well, you should just get blonde streaks with a streaking brush, you would have more control where you want your streaks. If you use lemon juice it could end up looking bad and really un-even.
    Lemmon Juice.

I want to use an at home dye to dye my normally highlighted hair. Where do I begin?

I have always been a blonde but over the years I have continued to get darker. At this point I have no idea what my natural color would be but I think it would be a dirty blonde. I use to dye my hair at home and then I started to get it professionally highlighted. I want to go back to at home dying but I have no idea where to begin. Any suggestions? What are good brands to buy? How do I now choose a color? etc...

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!I want to use an at home dye to dye my normally highlighted hair. Where do I begin?
color is chosen by level you need to find your natural level that's the color your hair is coming out from your scalp not what at the ends then you can choose a color no lighter than 2 shade lighter because store color are only designed to go 2 shades lighter this is important because if you miss judge you can end up with tones of red or gold that you don't want in your color..example dark blonde would be a level 7 then you could choose a level 9 shade you'll need to put it on dark hair only you don't want to overprosses the already highlighted hair the color can be applied last few minutes to all hair to help blendI want to use an at home dye to dye my normally highlighted hair. Where do I begin?
lorel and kenue and for highlights peroxide is 12%

What is the Best At Home Hair Dye and/or Highlights?

*My hair is dark brown, Im 15 and its been getting darker and darker (to my dismay :*( ) I have natrual reddish tones in it that you cant really see unless theirs a bright light on it.

*****My hair is natrually curly/wavy but I dont like it so I straighten it pretty much everyday/every other day....

nonetheless I have healthy hair but to make a long story short I need something very mousturizing...our water is hard but I use deep conditioners and the water will be fixed soon (hopefully)

****What I want is a lighter shade of brown, something milk-chocolatey or honeyish...but rich-with dimension. I DONT want to look like a fakey-brunette (eeewww)

****I want to highlight my hair wether or not I dye it with something either natrual (like mahogony reddish brown) or not (like raspberry pink) I havent decided yet...

*note* I CANT AFFORD TO GO TO A SALON! SO PLEASE......What is the Best At Home Hair Dye and/or Highlights?
    naturalmatch.com

GIves great ideas and the perfect shade for your skin tone. Choose the color you want, answer the questions, and it will give you the color. You can buy the dye at any drugstore for about 10 bucks. Ive dyed my hair before from Natural Match. It's the best one. They have 4 tones for each shade: Cool, Warm, Natural, and red. Depending on your skin tone, the tone will go best. Try it out. Good luckWhat is the Best At Home Hair Dye and/or Highlights?
I recommend Loreal Colour Experte. It is a base dye that does tend to be reddish or warm brown, and it comes with an easy highlighting kit for subtle highlights.
Best brand to use is L'Oreal Creme

So it won't come out flat, do NOT get anything with the word ASH in it. If you want glowing get a color that has the word Golden in it, like Dark Golden Blonde ( great color)

  • What's the best hair highlighting kit to use at home ?

well my hair is dark brown and am tired of it and i want to get highlights in my hair to change it up but i don't know what would be the best at-home-kit to use?? any suggestions? what color should i use?? What's the best hair highlighting kit to use at home ?
Use: Dimension Color Accents Highlighting Kit, $13; Clairol Herbal Essences HighLights, $10; or L'Oréal Couleur Experte, $19.99.

Suggestion: Maybe a lighter brown,..? I prefer getting it done professionally because they know what they're doing it. But If you think you can do it, go for it, and GOOD LUCK!

What's the best hair highlighting kit to use at home ?
My advice is if you can afford it get a hairdresser to do it, however if not then the best kit is Jerome Russell Bblonde highlighting kit,

If you are wanting maximum blonding though leave it on for maximum time (90 mins).
noooooo! they'll turn orange!!!! get it done professionallyy!!!!

Can I give myself at-home blonde highlights over DYED blonde hair?

I have been getting my done dyed at a salon for quite a while. My roots were growing in a few weeks ago and I didn't feel like spending the money, so I bought an at-home product, which ended up matching my base color perfectly. At every other salon appointment, I get lighter highlights. Any at-home products that would be effective and natural looking? Can I give myself at-home blonde highlights over DYED blonde hair?
Color rays is a one step dye. It might not look that natural so I'd do a test strip somewhere in the back of your hair. I used their fuchsia hair dye :PCan I give myself at-home blonde highlights over DYED blonde hair?
DO bear in mind that the shade may differ. You can try, but its best to head down to the salon.

Which at-home highlighting kits are used on wet hair?

Is the Revlon Frost and Glow one of them?Which at-home highlighting kits are used on wet hair?
No, to my knowledge there aren't any at home hair kits you use on wet hair. Frost and Glow you just mix up the powder and apply it to dry strands of hair through a cap. I have used Frost and Glow, Loreal Chunking and they are mostly rhe same but Frost and Glow is better. The only kind of hair color I could imagine used on wet hair is the shampoo in kind, but I haven't seen any of those since the 90's.

Hope this helped.Which at-home highlighting kits are used on wet hair?
You NEVER dye wet hair. The color slides right off. Whoever told you otherwise is smoking crack.

Highlights on brown hair at home???

I am doing highlights at home on medium/dark brown hair. They are the honey highlights from Revlon. I know that sometimes store bought colors are not strong enough, but I'm doing a strand test first. All I need to know is how to place the highlights to make them look like this. http://i25.tinypic.com/2lnx1j5.jpgHighlights on brown hair at home???
Never do highlights at home. It is almost impossible to fix it, if it doesn't come out right. and it will cost so much to go somewhere to have it fixed. just find a salon in your area that charges a reasonable price. Highlights on brown hair at home???
The highlights look AWESOME! I did that to my hair but io got it done in the store.
I did my highlights at home using wella... it was amazing... u must take help from ur friend though cos its much easier if someone else puts it on u

I am going to put highlights on my hair at home... by myself. Any advice?

DONT! I've done this when I lack some income to get it proffessionally done, and I ended up spending MUCH MORE money to have it fixed. It looked terrible and I had to live with it for 3 days till they could get me in. So my advice... DONT.I am going to put highlights on my hair at home... by myself. Any advice?
DON'T DO IT! no no no no no! my friend tried and all her hair fell out...go to a proI am going to put highlights on my hair at home... by myself. Any advice?
Yea I have advice.... Don't do it yourself!

Well, I'm talking from experience. My friend put blonde highlights in hair all by herself and it looked absolutely horrible. She had dark hair and so the highlights were the first thing you'd notice, which wasn't exactly a good look for her.

Unless you know what you're doing... then go ahead and try but my suggestion is that if it's your first time putting highlights in your hair then why not just spend about $20 going to a professional rather than risking to do it yourself. What if your hair ends up looking like my friend's?! =O !

Ok, well good luck on your hair either way. Hope it turns out like planned =)
get it done perfessionally, cause its wayyy hard by urself
Don't attempt to put highlights in yourself. You're not able to see where you are putting them, and you're not able to see the exact color of lightness. Go to a professional and have it done, or you'll end up going to a professional anyway, and paying more for a color correction.
hun just go to a beauty college and get it done

much easier and cheaper than a normal salon=]
DON'T DO IT!!! GO TO THE SALON! IT WILL SAVE YOU THE EMBARRASSMENT, TRUST ME! I DID MY OWN THE WEEK BEFORE MY WEDDING AND MY HAIR TURNED ORANGE, GREEN, BROWN AND BLACK. IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!
follow all the instructions right, and make sure you keep the color blend natural looking...in my opinion anyway. and try to keep away from all the chemicals getting to your eyes or hands.

    GOOD LUCK!
I mean, just realistically, you can't even get a good view of your own hair. Just doing good highlights in the back would be very difficult. And, other answerers are correct -- once you mess it up, man is it a pain to fix. That having been said, I have done highlights for a friend and they turned out great. The main problem isn't the ';at-home'; aspect, it's being able to do it to your own hair. Consider recruiting a friend and watching a movie while you wait! However, If you ARE going to do it alone, probably good to do the following:

Do it when the hair is dry.

No need to section out all your hair to begin with, just go along as you please. However, separate out sections that you've put the bleach in with tin foil wrapped around them.

Check the colour frequently to make sure it isn't getting too light.

Also to consider whether or not to do it at home is your current haircolour. Hair generally bleaches in orange-tinged shades with most systems available -- if this isn't agreeable to you, better to have it professionally done. Highlights are also kind of high maintenance if you want to keep them, and hard to dye back to your natural colour if you made them too light.

The biggest nono: Do not use multiple products at the same time, i.e. a bleach AND another hair dye on the hair to be highlighted simultaneously. Bleach should be washed out, and hair should be left to do it's thing preferably for about 3 days before any additional colour is added. Sometimes it turns out okay, but when it doesn't, it's a disaster!

What is the best at home hair color to use on hair that has already been highlighted?

I have highlights and low lights and want to return to my natural dark brown-reddish color. What at home color will cover up my highlights without turning the lighter strands pinkish. What is the best at home hair color to use on hair that has already been highlighted?
You will have to go darker than your highlights. They may show through a little bit, but not too bad. Loreal Preference is the best. That's what I use. The conditioner is really good with it! Good Luck! What is the best at home hair color to use on hair that has already been highlighted?
When I color my hair at home I use hair color from a beauty supply store. I do not have a hairdressers licence but some beauty supply stores will sell to you. I suggest you ask for help, the people who work at those stores are pretty knowledgeable and will help you obtain the results you want. Most of the time they have me mix 2 or 3 colors to get the color I want. Good Luck!!!!!

How long after dying hair at home can you put in highlights?

i'm dying my hair at home with celofane black color, but also want to add in red highlights....how long should i wait b4 i put in the highlights. this is my 1st time doing highlights on my own....helpHow long after dying hair at home can you put in highlights?
red highlights will never show up when put over black hair. You must bleach the strands out first, then add the red. This is almost impossible to do by yourself at home with drugstore color. Its best to go to a salon - before you go all black by yourself. The salon can do this all in probably 2 steps, and although it will cost you more than the box, it will be much easier and look much better than if you do it yourself.

=)How long after dying hair at home can you put in highlights?
Yeah i tried it at home: BIG PROBLEMS!! It went orange!

I would advise everyone to go to hairdressers! Report Abuse

Well i had my (coloured) blonde hair dyed brown last week and they booked me in for the final part of highlights tomorrow, so i think it can pretty much be done straight away, i had to wait a week as its girls training at saks that did mine and the didnt start highlights till this week, hope this helps x
You'll have to use a pre lightener on the bits you want to highlight and then dye them red.You should be okay to do it right away. they always tell you not to on the box but I've never had a poblem when I've done it.

Do those do-it-at-home highlighting kits on your hair really work? does it look professional?

I do my own highlights and people love it. Make sure you buy the one with the cap. Revlon sells one that comes with a brush. DO NOT buy that one. Buy the one that comes with a cap and the stick to pull your hair out of the cap. You can monitor how much highlights you want with the cap. Be sure to check your hair from time to time because it lightens really quickly. Make sure to follow the instructions on the box and try to get a color that is close to your hair color so you can see the ';after'; color on the box of how your hair will come out. The color on the box is pretty accurate.Do those do-it-at-home highlighting kits on your hair really work? does it look professional?

    Yea,

but you have to read the instructions.

my mom does them for me and on herself and they turn out really nice and natural looking, but i think it just depends how well you do it.
They work really well as long as you apply it correctly and patiently. Be sure to read the directions and it'll look really nice ;]

    Good luck!
i dunno iv always done mine at home so I couldn't compare it to professional but i started frosting my hair.. it last longer then highlights...it takes longer with the cap and everything but i like frosting better
Well it certainly doesn't look professional, but it can work. It's alot easier to do on people with light hair; the lighter the better. The colour pigments are much more brilliant on blondes, it can be hard to see on brunettes. Judging by your avatar, it looks like you have very dark hair, and are likely to try blonde or red highlights. If you were to visit the hairstylist, they would bleach your hair, allowing the dye to show up. You might have a very difficult time with DIY hightlighting. I wouldn't recomend it. Good luck! =]
Well I've only tried it once and it didn't work so well.
If you have some one help you with the cap,

and they know how to do it, it should turn out fine.
it does for me. the other day i went to get my hair done and they asked me who does my hair! i was like i did it with a friend! lol

i have very dark brown hair (darker than in my avatar picture haha) and i want to add some honey/golden/copper highlights, kind of like miley cyrus' hair.

what's the best home highlighting kit to do this? thanks XOXO :0)Highlighting dark hair w/ honey, golden, copper highlights at home?
Have it done at a salon. Home highlights for dark hair generally dont work.

WHY?- you need to bleach out the pigment first and many people do not know how not to damage their hair when they do this.

You need a lot of strong peroxide, and if you make a mistake you can end up with green or orange hair- damaged .

Go to a salon, the people there are pros.Highlighting dark hair w/ honey, golden, copper highlights at home?
no girl, get it done at the salons. please. the bleach is very harmful 2 your hair.
Sounds pretty...But couldn't see your picture.
Well your link doesn't work... Loreal is really good about their products... I'd try one of theirs.
i would try loreal or go to a place to get it done

My hair turned an orange color when I tried to do highlights at home. How can I get rid of the orange?

Go to a salon ASAP!!! Don't risk making it any worse than it already is! Good Luck! =)My hair turned an orange color when I tried to do highlights at home. How can I get rid of the orange?
    1 shave your head.

2 if you want to go darker to get rid of the orange, use a bit darker shade than your natural color.

3 i'm guessing you have dark hair to start with. if you want to go lighter, use a blue/violet-based toner, and the brassy-orange will turn to lighter blonde. My hair turned an orange color when I tried to do highlights at home. How can I get rid of the orange?
there are shampoos that you can buy at salons to take the orange out
    bleach it again
If your not trying to spend money you need to get a hair color with a blue base to it be cause blue cuts out orange changing the color of it. Not meaning go find a blue hair color no find a level 1-whatever that has a darker tint such as blue even violet cuts the orange or you will have to bleach it more but not too much because the cuticles of your hair is damaged and we don't want your hair to melt. But i honestly just advise you to seek professional help not online help, though i am license... GO TO A SALON THATS WHAT THEY ARE FOR.
First of all I wouldn't bleach it. Your hair might fall out. You should go to a professional and get her to to do a color correction. It will probably be a little expensive but it's worth it unless you want to go around with the look of a brillo pad on your head.
go to a salon before you make it worse. Yep, it'll cost you...but either be orange or pay, please don't put anything else on it yourself!!!
Either bleach it again to make it go blonde, or dye a darker colour over it. Both should work. Good luck %26lt;3
    bleach it

something like this. (:WANT TO DO LIGHT BROWN/BROWN HIGHLIGHTS ON MY HAIR AT HOME HELPPPPPPPme?
Did you do it already before? i mean at home? you know, it's very tricky to dye dark/black hair at home especially if you don't have any experienced helper. Also some dark hair has very stubborn pigment so you will probably need some special product to make it look lighter. So my advice, go the the hair salon, ask the people there what kind of products you should use on your hair type, they will check and will help you personally.
It depends on which dye you use. Try to find one that is really good, I had a friend do this and her streaks turned out orange. But that was a long time ago, so i don't know the brand.

Maybe ask somebody in the store which dye is best.

But with the right dye I think it will look great.
Most products will give you an idea of the color on your hair, but you will not get blonde unless you strip the color out first. Probably a caramel/red hue. Try visiting L'oreal.com they have a program where you can try diff. colors on your hair.
ok so here is a website --%26gt; http://www.hair.becomegorgeous.com/newest_trends/trendy_hair_highlights-188.html

I like the the third one the best (Ruby Slivers)

But the sixth one is not highlights but more streeks it's a really mod look ( Rear Hue)
If you get a good quality highlight, it should come out pretty blondey, probably dark blonde.

Blonde highlights usually come out pretty well on darker hair.
do not do it at home.they never turn out right.sorry..and keep in mind that because you need to wipe out the color of your hair,it will be damaged.

At home hair color and highlights help?

i went out and got hair dye, plus dye for highlights and a highlight cap etc... since the packages usually say dye dry hair, what would be the best approach for this... ? At home hair color and highlights help?
You can dye your hair early in the morning and then let it sit for a while (DO NOT DRY IT WITH A TOWEL) or blow-dry it. It's better to let it sit, though, so your scalp can absorb the color. As for the highlights, do them during the afternoon, but make sure you can stay up until at least 5 hours afterward. You don't want to have a tie-dyed pillow case in the morning.

If you are trying to look for a way to have home-made highlights that you CAN control, sprinkle some lemon juice all around your head (where you want them to be) about 10-15 min. before going out into the sun. Wear sunscreen, though, because you'll be there for a while. Going to the beach or pool helps, but don't get your hair wet for at least 2 hours. Note that this takes more than one time to work. Try at least 10 and see if there's any difference. Don't over-do it, though. Also note that the highlights will be BLOND. You should not dye the lemon for different color highlights...lol.

Good luck!!!At home hair color and highlights help?
I dye and highlight my hair every month girl and my mom is a hair stylist. It's ok to do it with damp hair. Not soaking wet but damp is ok. By the way, be careful with dye and highlights, it REALLY damages your hair if you don't take care of your hair like using a good conditioner, brush out tangles then brush your hair all through, and avoid bleaching your hair.
    Wash your hair.

    Dye it the next day.

The color on the box is pretty accurate.
If you have some one help you with the cap,

and they know how to do it, it should turn out fine.
Well I've only tried it once and it didn't work so well.
    Yea,

but you have to read the instructions.

my mom does them for me and on herself and they turn out really nice and natural looking, but i think it just depends how well you do it.
Good luck! =]
They work really well as long as you apply it correctly and patiently. Be sure to read the directions and it'll look really nice ;]

    Good luck!

  • How long after dying hair at home can you put in highlights?

i'm dying my hair at home with celofane black color, but also want to add in red highlights....how long should i wait b4 i put in the highlights. this is my 1st time doing highlights on my own....helpHow long after dying hair at home can you put in highlights?
red highlights will never show up when put over black hair.

Highlighting dark hair w/ honey, golden, copper highlights at home?

i have very dark brown hair (darker than in my avatar picture haha) and i want to add some honey/golden/copper highlights, kind of like miley cyrus' hair.

    here's a picture of her highlights: http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/09MQ...

what's the best home highlighting kit to do this? thanks XOXO :0)Highlighting dark hair w/ honey, golden, copper highlights at home?

    Highlighting/Dying my hair at home?

It's light brown now, but I want it dirty blonde.

I normally get highlights at a salon, but I just don't have the money anymore.

Can anyone suggest a good brand that makes it easy to highlight OR dye my hair?

Also, do you have any tips?

Thanks !Highlighting/Dying my hair at home?
Just walk through your local drugstore and take note of the best and less costly kits, don't get pull through caps or bleach at all.And tinting brushes and foil are always a good sign. :]

My hair turned an orange color when I tried to do highlights at home. How can I get rid of the orange?

bleach it againMy hair turned an orange color when I tried to do highlights at home. How can I get rid of the orange?
If your not trying to spend money you need to get a hair color with a blue base to it be cause blue cuts out orange changing the color of it. Not meaning go find a blue hair color no find a level 1-whatever that has a darker tint such as blue even violet cuts the orange or you will have to bleach it more but not too much because the cuticles of your hair is damaged and we don't want your hair to melt. But i honestly just advise you to seek professional help not online help, though i am license... GO TO A SALON THATS WHAT THEY ARE FOR.My hair turned an orange color when I tried to do highlights at home. How can I get rid of the orange?
Go to a salon ASAP!!! Don't risk making it any worse than it already is! Good Luck! =)
Either bleach it again to make it go blonde, or dye a darker colour over it. Both should work. Good luck %26lt;3
    1 shave your head.

2 if you want to go darker to get rid of the orange, use a bit darker shade than your natural color.

3 i'm guessing you have dark hair to start with. if you want to go lighter, use a blue/violet-based toner, and the brassy-orange will turn to lighter blonde.
    bleach it
there are shampoos that you can buy at salons to take the orange out

What brand of at home highlights is best for African-American hair?

I am an African-American girl and I would like to highlight my dark brown hair a copper color. Which brand of at home highlights are best for African-American hair? Or should I just find a good salon? What brand of at home highlights is best for African-American hair?
PLEASE find a salon. Permanent hair color is not something to fool around with and I've heard story after story of someone trying to do something at home, messing up then having to consult a stylist to fix it. So do it right from the beginning. Clairol Textures %26amp; Tones are made for African-American hair and have a good range of colors. I have dark brown hair and used the Flaming Desire for highlights I love it! Also after you color your hair please take care of it with protein treatments and conditioners. What brand of at home highlights is best for African-American hair?
