At home highlights on dark color treated hair?

My natural color is boring brown. I am dying it dark brown. Then I want to put those Garnier Color Breaks blonde highlights over it. But I'm afraid it is going to turn out orange. I'm doing it at home, box style. Any suggestions? At home highlights on dark color treated hair?
ive done that before, and it turned orange,,, if u do do it make sure you leave them on for like an hour... and be very precise on where you put the color, bc i did it and boy it was a mess i had to get it professionally fixedAt home highlights on dark color treated hair?
Yes it will turn orange for sure even if it is naturally dark brown (no added color). And if you color it before, well, you'll need bleach to lift the color and I'm pretty sure those kits are not bleach, but only hair color... which will never lighten pre-colored hair. So your best bet is this: if you can handle having darker highlights (no more than three shades lighter than your natural color) buy a dye for two tones lighter than the color you can reasonably achieve (e.g. a pale ash blonde will give you a dark blonde on medium brown hair). Then, buy those highlight papers and a good coloring brush. You'll need a friend for this, and you'll need to have her color sections of your hair with the dark color and other sections with the light color. You'll need to apply the color with a brush for sure, and fold the highlight papers on the hair that is lighter so it won't be tainted by the dark color. Also, if it turns out too yellow you can always color on top with only peroxide and a purple toner so it'll cut the yellow down to a beige color.
