Highlighting my hair at home?

When i do my hair i with my friends help put a brown on then i have highlights put in and have always used cream peroxide 12% 40 vol bleach combination, and get the result i want, but would using a 20 or a 30 vol be better for my hair ??Highlighting my hair at home?
her hair isn't highlighted, it's all bleached. if you have brown dye in your hair now, you should use color oops dye remover before you bleach. if you have dye in your hair and bleach it, it really damages it. color oops will take all the dye out, then you can bleach. go to sally beauty supply and buy some loreal quick blue bleach. if your hair is longer than just above your shoulders and or thick you will need more than one packet of bleach. depending on what color your hair will be will tell you what peroxide you will need. you should do what i did. i got 30 and 40 volume peroxide and mixed them together in the bleach. you should also get some ardell unred and red gold corrector plus. they are little color additive droppers that you add to bleach and dye and they prevent hair from turning too brassy or orange and they work great! also get a processing cap (shower cap) to put over your hair once all the bleach is in to keep it from drying out. when bleach dries out, it stops working. leave it in your hair long enough till it's pale yellow (like a banana peel) and wash the bleach out. when you're at sally's you can get some toner to use after you bleach. get one with a blue base or a blue/violet base to really remove all that yellow. you will also need some 20 volume peroxide and an aplicator bottle for the toner. and don't forget gloves, a non-metallic mixing bowl and a tint brush. at sally's there are 2 brands of toner, wella and miss clairol. miss clairol comes in 2 ounces and requires 2 ounces of peroxide and wella also comes in 2 ounces but requires 4 ounces of peroxide. miss clairol leaves hair really soft and wella kinda makes hair a little dry but it works better at removing brassy tones because it has twice the amount of peroxide. if you have any questions about any of the sally's products, ask the girl there for help, they are licensed and can help you with everything you need. good luck!
