I bought a kit to high light my hair at home. It has a cap that you pull the strands through. I am going to get my mom to do it for me because I'm scared if I do it on my own I will mess it up.
Does anyone have any tips on how to do it and achieve the best results?Highlighting hair at home?
Be prepared for pain, especially if your hair is long. Those cap things w/ the hook tend to be PAINFUL as it yanks your hair and does hurt. You'll feel like you just got into a cat fight the night before when you finish. If you can't handle the pain, just use foil and wrap strips around the processed pieces.
I'd do a strand test, sometimes these come out brassy. AND you may want to opt for the foil. Also, cover your hair w/ plastic (shower cap or bag) and use a hair dryer to heat it up for awhile, or just wait w/ it on until it is time to rinse out.
IF you hate the color it comes out, use a ash color that is light and closest to your natural hair color or current hair color to fix anything you don't like.Highlighting hair at home?
Thanks! You inspired me to do my own highlight and WOW, I'm so glad I did. I used the Loreal Quick blue bleach and a dark ash brown dye to neutralize the brassiness. Thanks!
Foil works so much better. Report Abuse
well, make sure you part your hair exactly the way you normally wear it otherwise you wont notice the color as much as you would. hmmm.... make sure you try to put an even amount of stuff on each strand you highlight unless you are going for a different look. i did it on my own for the first time last month, and i think it turned out pretty good. good luck!
