How do you highlight black hair at home?

I have short black hair and i want to put red highlights in it because.. well i just do :)

It is black naturally but its darker than normal because it has semi permenant BLACKblack dye in it as well (I did that today, mainly because I was bored and it looks fab :) )

Any ideas? Also i'm in the UK if thats any help lol :)

mines dyed black too, i used this highlights thing from superdrug ill try find a link. Its well good as long as you leave it long enough, i didnt even have to pre lighten any of it. I used the pink and it came out the perfect colour so i expect the red would too.

Don't do it yourself, it will come out an orangey red colour because your hair is black. Go to a salon where the concentration of the colour they use will be stronger than anything you can buy off the shelves and will give you the look you want instead of a DIY disaster that you'll have to dye over with black anyway, defeating the object.
You will need to get a prelightener first and apply this as many times to the parts that you want red untill it turns really blonde/white. Then apply the red hair dye. This will ensure the bright coverage that you will want. However, with colours like red blue and pink you will need to dye the coloured bit every 2-3 weeks as they do fade.
Its better in a salon. They never come out good at home especially since you have black hair.
i know this is your own preferance, but don't put hightlights in, whatever color they are, they look trashy and cheap
